It seems that Apple is working on the new series that contains the iPhone 15 Pro – iPhone 15 Pro, before the launch of the iPhone 14 series, as a new report revealed details related to the front camera in the phone.

The report revealed that Samsung It is developing a camera technology under the screen (UPC: Under Panel Camera) required for this purpose. It is expected that the new UPC technology from Samsung Display will be applied sequentially to the Samsung foldable phone, which will be released next year, in addition to a phone from Apple.

According to an industry source, it was understood that Apple is planning to implement an under-screen camera in the iPhone 15 Pro which will be released in the coming years.

Face ID refers to a technology in which the part of the face ID that is required to identify the user on the iPhone looks like a normal screen when this function is not used.

The same method of UPC technology that makes the lens hole invisible when the camera function is not in use, can be applied to Underpanel Face ID. Samsung Electronics applied the technology to the internal display of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 foldable phone that was released last year. This technology is developed by Samsung Display.

Samsung Display is known to be developing a necessary new UPC technology such as Underpanel Face ID with Canadian OTI Lumionics. The new UPC includes a Metal Pattern Layer (MPL) using a cathode mask material.

According to the new report, if Samsung Display completes development as planned, the new UPC technology will be applied first to Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Z Fold 5 foldable phone that will be released next year.

Meanwhile, LG Display is also developing UPC which aims to increase the light transmittance of UPC to 20% by 2023 and 40% after 2024, LG Display plans to use transparent PI substrate instead of current polyimide (PI) for UPC application.
