Apple patents a hinge keyboard that converts the iPad into a MacBook
The United States Patent and Trademark Office today formally granted Apple a patent for a new hinge iPad keyboard accessory that offers multiple mounting positions and superior flexibility for users.
The new keyboard will support seamless iPad conversion to MacBook Pro. And one of the patent numbers might indicate that the iPad could get a macOS (or macOS-like) user interface.
Patent details for a hinge keyboard for the iPad
according to pictures patentThe new iPad accessory includes a core and a coupling mechanism. The main part may include an electromechanical keyboard, which features hinges that support the connection of iPads in more than one mode, including one that simulates a laptop, and another that simulates the reverse display of the screen.
The accessory device may have a coupling mechanism to pair the accessory device body to the iPad in several different mounting positions. The coupling mechanism may specify an interface for the attachment to connect the tablet to the base part.

The accessory includes the body part number 122 and the coupling mechanism number 130. The pairing mechanism is able to connect the iPad in an editable form to the main body of the accessory “FIG”. 1E states that the iPad can be reversed with the screen on the back side when the user folds it down over the keyboard.

As shown in Figure 7C below, the #780b magnetic element may move between the first position #781a and the second position #781b.

In Apple’s patent “FIG” in Figure 3A above, we note that the hinge may provide an interface so that the hinge can magnetically support the Apple Pencil. 4A clearly presents the macOS or macOS user interface. It doesn’t seem to feature Apple’s Sidecar because it’s edge-to-edge; In the 8A, it appears that the hinge can provide a communication interface that supports the addition of other accessories such as a camera, projector, microphone or light.

It’s worth noting that Apple’s engineering teams are working on the form factor for the new iPad and MacBook. On February 3, Apple published a report titled “A new Apple patent reveals a highly configurable MacBook-like computing system.”
