Bloomberg: No new AirPods this year, the Pro models will have no stems

Apple has not released an updated design for its in-ear AirPods since 2019, and despite reports that new models will arrive later this year, we may have to wait until 2022, according to sources talking to Bloomberg.

AirPods 3 has shorter stems and a new charging case. We have seen them in leaked reproductions and even a live image. The new models are assumed to have support for Spatial Audio.

AirPods Pro 2 has no stems at all. The design is set to debut with a new Beats headset expected next month (Beats Studio Buds, perhaps?). The new pros will, according to the report, have improved motion sensors that will be used for fitness tracking.

There are no plans to upgrade the AirPods Max, though we may get additional colors.

Apart from headphones, Apple is reportedly developing a new HomePod that will have a screen and a camera for FaceTime, similar to Amazon’s Echo Show devices. The HomePod will reportedly include some Apple TV features that may give it an advantage over the Amazon design.
