Sony Xperia 10 III in for review

Hello to the newly arrived Sony Xperia 10 III. This is Sony’s midrange offering, and it may look simple for a bug, but is actually stacked with everything you need.

Let’s disconnect it and take it from there. The retail experience is a bit of a downside for a phone that costs £ 399 / € 429 when pre-ordered. There’s a USB cable, a 7.5W charger that feels straight out of 2008 and nothing else. A case would have been nice. But hey, Sony packs a free pair of Sony WH-CH710N noise-canceling headphones with a pre-order.

The Sony Xperia 10 III does not give a memorable first impression, but it is a solid case of not judging anything by its appearance. Everything about this phone is underrated, yet capable.

The screen is of the classic Sony 21: 9 aspect ratio and it is a 1080p OLED for startup. Unfortunately, Sony was not able to stick a fingerprint scanner underneath, and instead there is a side-mounted one.

Under the hood is an 8nm Snapdragon 690 that should do a good job of balancing performance with efficiency, which combined with the well-sized 4,500mAh battery should provide ample operating time.

Then there is a complete range of cameras – wide, 2x telephoto and 16 mm ultra-wide. The camera hardware behind the lenses is not the most impressive, but we expect the Sony treatment to ensure good results as usual.

Finally, there are 3.5mm headphone jacks with LDAC and Hi-Res audio support, the stereo speakers and IP68 water and dust resistance for peace of mind.

Comparing the Xperia 10 III to its predecessor provides a fun game, whichever it is. On closer inspection, III is slightly shorter than II. It is also a bit heavier, which is not immediately noticeable. What is likely to be noticed is the 20% increase in battery capacity on the newer phone.
