Samsung is expected to announce foldable Galaxy Z Fold 3 within the next eight weeks, and a new report sheds some light on what is currently happening behind the scenes in preparation for the launch.
Samsung starts production of Galaxy Z Fold 3
WinFuture reports that Samsung today launched mass production of the components to be used in the collapsible Galaxy Z Fold 3. The timeline confirms the latest rumors of a release in late July or August.
Despite setting a big sales target for the next foldable, it is said that Samsung is planning relatively low numbers in the mass production phase. The total volume is about a third of what Samsung typically orders for more traditional smartphones like Galaxy S21 or Galaxy S20 FE.
It may be related to the product’s relative lack of mainstream appeal. Collapsible smartphones are still very much niche products despite Samsung’s efforts, and that does not change overnight.
A large part of it is down to the retail price rather than the form factor itself. Foldable screens are extremely expensive to manufacture, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is likely to cost almost $ 2,000 at launch as a result.
Separately, WinFuture reports that Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is still not in production. Nevertheless, an announcement is still expected in the summer along with the larger Fold 3.
The compact Galaxy Z Flip 3 should target a more ordinary audience thanks to its significantly lower price and wide range of colors. It is currently one of those best new phones expected in 2021.
Under-display camera, S Pen support and more
As mentioned above, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be very expensive when it hits shelves. So what will it offer for the money other than a foldable screen? Well, if the rumors are true, quite a bit.
One of the most exciting technologies will be embedded under the large folding screen – a screen camera. The associated technology has not yet made it widely available products, so its presence on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 may push adoption.
If reviews are positive and no major issues arise, under-display cameras may eventually seep down to Samsung’s other smartphones. That The Galaxy S22 would be a good candidate, but it can be a risky move.
Another highlight of the Galaxy Z Fold 3 should be the S Pen support. The latter was previously reserved for the Galaxy Note line, but in 2021, Samsung will make it much more accessible.
Of course, all this will be paired with the latest internal technology. Expect to find Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 on the inside and at least 12GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. However, there is no microSD card support.
The completion of the package is set to be 25W fast charging support, a 4.380mAh battery and Android 11 right out of the box with the promise of updates for Android 12, Android 13 and Android 14.
