The original PUBG: Battlegrounds game on all platforms, including computer and console, achieved great success and huge revenue after turning it into a free game last January, as the report revealed the profits earned by the developer company Crafton.

According to the report, sales on PCs increased 61% year-over-year to $82.3 million. On the console, the sales jump was even greater, increasing 124% from the previous quarter and 274% year-over-year, although Crafton did not identify the dollar profit behind the increases.

The game also saw a “nearly threefold” increase in average monthly active users from the fourth quarter of 2021.

PUBG has been a paid subscription game since its launch on Steam in 2017, and the game has been a huge success since then. But the massive financial success of free Battle Royale games like Fortnite, Call of Duty: Warzone and Apex Legends has proven that the free PUBG model can be very profitable.

EA said this week that Apex Legends, a game that’s been released for just over three years, has passed $2 billion in net lifetime bookings. Epic raised about $144 million for Ukraine relief from just two weeks of Fortnite revenue.
