Apple has just announced the 10th generation iPad, but it’s not a very faithful follow-up to last year’s entry-level iPad. As expected, the new iPad is thinner with flat sides and a larger 10.9-inch 2360x1640px IPS LCD with 500 nits. It’s basically an iPad Air (2022) without the M1 processor.
Instead, the 10th generation iPad has the A14 Bionic chip with a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine.
The tablet is available in silver, blue, pink and yellow and in 64GB and 256GB trims, as well as Wi-Fi-only and Wi-Fi + 5G models. It is the faster Wi-Fi 6.
iPad 10th generation moves to USB-C and supports the first generation of Apple Pencil. however, read the fine print and you’ll see that the pencil uses Lightning, so you’ll need a USB-C to Lightning adapter (included in the box). The adapter itself will be available for $9.
iPad 10th gen comes with a landscape-oriented 12MP f/2.4 122-degree ultra-wide front camera. It will fit more people in the frame and supports Smart HDR 3, 1080p video up to 60fps and extended dynamic range up to 30fps. At the opposite end is a 12MP f/1.8 AF main camera with 4K video.
Apple Pencil support and new landscape front camera
Apple has created a Magic Keyboard Folio for the new iPad that connects through the Smart Connector and attaches magnetically. It includes a tripod and a trackpad. The keyboard will boost the iPad’s capabilities for $249/€299/INR 24,900.
The Apple iPad 10th gen is available for pre-order now and will ship from October 26 – in 1 to 2 weeks, depending on the market.
It starts from $449/€579/INR 44,900 for a 64GB Wi-Fi only model. That’s a significant price increase from last year’s entry-level model, but thankfully Apple is also keeping it on the shelves at a price of $329/€429/INR 33,900.
