Samsung has released a new app designed to improve the camera experience for One UI 5.0 users which is known as the Camera Assistant app.

And one of the best aspects Camera Assistant is that although it is developed by the Good Lock team, it is not based on the Good Lock beta platform. In other words, the app can be downloaded from the Galaxy Store by users of Galaxy devices in regions that do not have access to Good Lock.

What can Camera Assistant do for you?

Camera Assistant has a very simple presentation. It has only one screen which contains a set of toggles and a couple of drop down menus that can change the behavior of some camera features.

Auto HDR

This option is enabled by default. When enabled, it allows the Camera app on your One UI 5.0 device to capture more details in bright and dark areas of your photos and videos.

Photo smoothing

Enabling this option results in sharper edges and textures for images captured in Photo mode. By default, it is disabled. You can give it a try and see if the results suit your photography style.

Lens auto switch

Again, this feature is enabled by default. Allows the camera app to select the best lens according to magnification, lighting, and distance to the subject. Disabling this option gives you more control over which sensor you’re using, but it limits some of the automatic features on your device.

Video recording in photo mode

If you are annoyed with the current option to touch and hold the shutter button to record videos in photo mode, you can turn this toggle off. The toggle is turned on by default within the Camera Assistant app.

Number of photos after the timer

This new option can be very useful, as it lets you limit the number of photos your phone’s camera takes when you set a timer. You can choose from 1, 3, 5 or 7 images.

faster shutter

This feature is meant to speed up the shutter, but it comes at a cost. It captures fewer frames, which may result in lower image quality. For this reason, it is disabled by default.

Camera deadline

This drop-down menu allows you to select the amount of time the Camera app remains open when it is inactive. By default, the camera will shut down after two minutes of inactivity, but tapping on this dropdown in the Camera Assistant app lets you choose between 1-2 minutes, 5 or 10 minutes.

Clean preview on HDMI monitors

And last but not least, the Clean Preview on HDMI Screens option allows users to review the viewfinder without any widgets when the phone is connected to an external display via HDMI.
