New limited edition Xiaomi 12T Pro brings a contemporary art look, inspired by sculptural objects
The Xiaomi 12T Pro arrived in a Daniel Arsham Edition, the manufacturer announced today. The phone comes as a joint project with the New York-based artist, who developed the device to be a “sculpture with a purpose beyond that of a functional object”.
The device itself is a 12/256GB version with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and 200MP camera, but the back panel is green with copper-colored crystals that shine differently under angle.
Daniel Arsham said that in 20 years, people who want this phone will use it as a sculptural object, linked to a specific moment in time and wear it beyond its functionality. The concept artist experimented with creating different textures, so the back panel is a result of “his sculptural suggestion of obsolescence and natural erosions on a smartphone”.
Xiaomi said the collaboration is built “toward an imagined future of digital dematerialization” and is driven by the company’s core values of innovation, design and manufacturing. This unique phone will cost €899 and only 2,000 units will be made.
Pre-orders will begin on December 5, with actual sales of the Xiaomi 12T Pro Daniel Arsham Edition scheduled for December 16 on mi.com, as well as highsnobiety.com. A pop-up shop will also appear for two days in Berlin during the launch.
