Apple AR headset to launch in Q2 2022, says Kuo
Just after yesterday’s Apple event, there is more speculation surrounding the long-rumored Apple AR headset. The notable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has come out with a new note to investors stating a launch date in the second quarter of 2022. Earlier rumors mentioned a launch date in 2023.
We predict that Apple will launch an AR HMD (main display) device in 2Q22. The device will provide a transparent AR experience, so the lens is also needed and Genius is also a key provider. – Ming-Chi Kuo
The latest investor note also detailed Apple’s supply chain for camera lenses and Taiwan’s Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) as the main supplier for the upcoming iPhone 13 series as well as AR headsets. The Apple AR Headset is expected to use Sony microLED displays with both AR content transparent mode and VR content opaque mode. A total of 15 cameras are put to work, giving users a truly immersive experience.

The design will be light and get in at 200-300 grams thanks to a feather-like cloth on the outside. You will still need to connect a computer / laptop to turn on the AR headset, while a more portable version will arrive in 2025. Prices for Apple’s AR headset are expected to come in at around $ 1,000, although previous rumors expected a much higher mark at about $ 3,000, so we’ll just have to wait and see what’s up.
