MIUI 14 announced with improved system architecture and refined design
The first MIUI launched back in 2010 and over 12 years later, MIUI boasts a global user base of over 564 million monthly active users. Just as the Xiaomi 13 series went official, we got the announcement of MIUI 14 – the latest Android 13-based interface for Xiaomi devices.
Xiaomi says this is the most optimized and streamlined MIUI to date, and it starts with Project Razor. The team behind MIUI 14 updated the Android Kernel level system architecture with CPU, GPU and memory resource planning, lighter system firmware size and reduced memory consumption.
Xiaomi claims that MIUI 14 runs 60% smoother compared to its predecessor on the Xiaomi 12S Ultra.
Other neat optimizations include automatic compression for apps that aren’t actively used and a switch to disable persistent notifications. Only eight system apps cannot be uninstalled, which is a big leap from previous MIUI releases.
MIUI 14 design and pet characters
MIUI 14’s design features customizable folders with normal and large icons and new widget options with different shapes and sizes. One of the more unexpected new additions in MUI 14 is the Flower and Pet widgets, which are animated Tamagotchi-like characters that live on your home screen.
MIUI 14 also brings duplicate file merging and improved text recognition and extracting from images in the gallery. Privacy has also been revised with end-to-end encryption and local processing of user data on the device.
MIUI 14 also has a new switch in the control center that lets you assign Xiaomi accessories like wireless earphones between Xiaomi devices via drag and drop. This feature removes the hassle of pairing earphones to other devices.

The new family account feature lets you share your photos and cloud subscription services with up to 9 people. Users can also share their health tracking data from their smartwatch to help with health tracking of family members.
Xiaomi tablets get the added benefit of easy keyboard and mouse switching with laptops, as well as screen mirroring and extended screen functionality.
