Does toothpaste treat phone screen scratches? Xiaomi company reveals shocking information
There have been various tales of tricks or hacks that seem to help smartphone users after their devices are damaged. An example of this is placing the phone in rice after it has fallen into the water to dry it and prevent damage to the phone. However, Xiaomi is out to debunk one of the biggest myths. So let’s take a look.
The Chinese tech giant has taken to YouTube to share a video debunking the myth of using toothpaste to repair screen scratches. The old rumors claim that using toothpaste fills the gaps in the screen and polishes the convex part of the screen to make it smooth and good.
But in the video, we can clearly see that there was no difference or improvement in scratches in the phone it was tested on. Instead, Xiaomi added, this old advice does more harm than good.
The company stated that toothpaste is sometimes a polishing agent, however, the fine particles in the paste cannot effectively repair cracks in the screen.
Moreover, toothpaste is actually an alkaline substance, which may destroy the acid resistance of the oleophobic coating on top of a smartphone screen over time.
And this layer is mainly applied to the screen of smartphones to help keep dust spots and fingerprints away thanks to the oils that the human body secretes.
The brand has also recommended that one should go to the official Xiaomi customer service to deal with such problems.
