Samsung’s new Odyssey Neo G7 is a flat 43″ gaming monitor and smart TV
Samsung has released a number of huge gaming monitors under the Odyssey brand – like the 55” 16:9 Ark or the bonkers 57” 32:9 Neo G9. These are curved screens, while some users prefer flat ones. The new Odyssey Neo G7 (model name: G70NC) is for them.
This is a 43″ screen with 4K resolution (3,840 x 2,160 px, 16:9). The Odyssey screens are large enough to be used as a TV – in fact, they are Tizen smart TVs – and a flat screen works better for that. The other models use tight curves that are optimized for use at a desk rather than viewing them from the sofa.
144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time • Built-in support for game and video streaming
The Neo G7 features a Quantum Mini LED backlight for precise local dimming. It gets bright enough for a VESA Display HDR600 certification (600 nits) and also supports HDR10+. You can use this in a brightly lit room thanks to its brightness as well as the matte finish of the screen surface.
As a gaming monitor, you can connect it to a PC via DisplayPort or HDMI 2.1. The panel can run at up to 144Hz refresh rate with 1ms response times, AMD FreeSync Premium Pro is supported. You can keep an eye on your FPS, variable refresh rate and HDR status from the Game Bar.
The Odyssey Neo G7 has built-in support for game streaming services such as Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now. You can connect a wireless controller via Bluetooth and you’re good to go. You don’t even need to connect external speakers as there are 20W speakers on board.
As we mentioned earlier, this is also a smart TV, so you can re-stream Prime Video, Netflix and YouTube while your PC or console is off. You can also control your SmartThings devices from the Samsung Smart Hub.

A few more things. The included stand can be tilted at a comfortable angle, but you can also mount the screen on the wall. There are also a pair of USB 3.0 ports available from the built-in USB hub. As for internet connectivity, you can either go the wired route with Ethernet or use Wi-Fi 5 (game streaming will benefit from a wired connection as it’s more stable and has lower latency to boot).
Samsung will launch the Odyssey Neo G7 in the first quarter of this year, the exact timing and prices will be announced by the company’s regional offices.
