Apple will invest €1 billion in a new silicon design center in Munich
Apple announced it is investing 1 billion euros in a new silicon design center after spending the same amount on its new R&D center in Munich two years ago. In fact, the new facility is treated as an extension of the existing one, as it will be located directly across the street.
Inside Apple’s current research facility
Apple wants to gather 2,000 of its engineers in one place so that they can work more efficiently with the advanced equipment. The effort will go towards developing custom silicon design, power management chips and future wireless technologies. The main goal is to improve the performance, efficiency and power savings of Apple devices.
With so much cash lying around, Apple had to announce a huge investment like this, and we suspect more to come in the near future. In the last five years, Apple has spent over 18 billion euros with more than 800 German companies and has provided numerous jobs in the country.
