Today, Samsung officially announced a new 200MP camera sensor called the ISOCELL HP3, nine months after the launch of the first 200MP ISOCELL HP1 camera sensor.
The new sensor is 12% smaller than the previous version. It has a size of 1 / 1.4 inch, with a resolution of 200 megapixels, and a native pixel size of 0.56 μm. The ISOCELL HP1 sensor is about 1/1.22 inch in size with 0.64 µm pixels.

The new sensor can capture 50-megapixel images as it combines 2 x 2 pixels to reach a pixel size of 1.12 micrometers, which greatly contributes to clarifying the details of the image. If the surrounding environment is too dark, the sensor will start merging 16 pixels into a 4×4 format to increase the pixel size to 2.24 µm.
Samsung also boasts Super-QPD autofocus technology. All pixels are equipped with autofocus capabilities, and there is one lens above each group of four pixels that recognizes phase differences in the horizontal and vertical directions.

The sensor can also shoot 8K video at 30 fps and 4K video at 120 fps with minimal field-of-view loss.

Improved Smart-ISO Pro now integrates three-stage information (High ISO, Medium ISO, and Low ISO mode) to enhance HDR performance and for better dynamic range.

The ISOCELL HP3 sensor can capture 14-bit images to support up to 4 trillion colors, 64 times more than the previous HP1 sensor, which was at just 68 billion colors.

Samsung has stated that it is ready to provide samples of the ISOCELL HP3 to phone manufacturers and expects mass production to begin this year.
