During this year’s WWDC, Apple announced a few nice features for its music streaming service, including Lossless and Spatial Audio. And these features are now also making their way into the Android Apple Music app, though they are now limited to beta testers.
The description mentions that only compatible devices could use Spatial Audio and the thousands of Dolby Atmos-ready tracks currently available. There is a Dolby Atmos badge on the album page to let you know that the tracks are compatible. The same goes for Lossless Audio.
The settings menu shows a few options to choose from – High efficiency: AAC with low data consumption (mobile only), High quality: AAC 256 kbps, Lossless: ALAC up to 24-bit / 48 kHz and high resolution Loss-free: ALAC up to 24-bit / 192 kHz.
Finally, the Android app now adds an automatic crossing between tracks that offers seamless transitions while you listen. And there is a bit of search optimization going on so you can more easily find your favorite music.
