IDC: PC market contracts by 29% in Q1 due to weak demand
The PC market posted another disappointing quarter, with worldwide shipments down 29% compared to last year as of last year. IDC report. Based on preliminary data, the total number of PCs sold in January-March was 56.9 million units, which is 23.3 million units less than the total for Q1 2022. All five major PC vendors are experiencing double-digit declines , with Apple performing the worst with a 40.5% difference between Q1 2022 and Q1 2023.

Lenovo remained the global leader in total shipments with 12.7 million units and a market share of 22.4%. HP came in second with 12 million shipments and a 15.8% market share, while Dell rounded out the third spot with 9.5 million shipments, accounting for 13.7% of the market. Apple came in fourth with 4.1 million shipments and a 7.2% market share, while Asus was fifth with 3.9 million shipments and a 6.8% market share.

The recent PC downturn was caused by continued weak consumer demand, excess inventory and the volatile economic market. The coming months do not look good for PC vendors, as IDC experts predict a return to growth by the end of this year.
