Motorola is not the only company working on a phone with a 200 MP camera – Digital Chat Station reports that there is a phone on the way with a 200MP sensor, a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a 120Hz screen and a 5,000mAh battery.
While the leaker played snugly, some speculate that this is a Xiaomi phone, specifically the Redmi K50S Pro. Or it could be Xiaomi 12T Pro instead (actually they can be one and the same, just different names in different regions).
The sensor will be either Samsung’s ISOCELL HP1 or ISOCELL HP3. Both have 200MP resolution, but the difference is in optical format and pixel size – 1 / 1.22 ”and 0.64µm and 1 / 1.4” and 0.56µm (before 4-in-1 binding), respectively.
Motorola uses the larger HP1, and it released a camera preview earlier today showing what the sensor can do with 4-in-1 pixel binding enabled – it’s still a 50 MP image! It is not yet clear which sensor Xiaomi will choose. Considering the premium 8+ Gen 1 chipset, it obviously makes more sense to go with HP1.
There are several uncertainties – will Leica work on the phone or not? We’ll have to wait for more leaks to find out.
