A Xiaomi car will officially appear in its prototype on this date

The founder of Xiaomi revealed that the prototype of the Xiaomi car will be revealed in the coming period, as he revealed the exact date of the unveiling of the model.

According to Xiaomi founder Lei Jun, the company will unveil the prototype at a public event in August, and he also mentioned that he spends two-thirds of his time at Xiaomi Auto’s headquarters to make sure the project goes as planned.

Following the unveiling, the prototype will begin road testing including the first winter tests. The team leading the project comes from HVST Automobile Design responsible for the Maven concept car from WM Motors.

Xiaomi is preparing to launch its own auto brand, and it has already appointed a PR manager and will start its marketing campaign after the prototype is released to the public.

The company officially joined the electric car race at the beginning of last year and has committed $10 billion over the next 10 years to developing the automotive division.

The Xiaomi Auto plant will be built in Yizhuang where the company will also have a research and development center. In addition, the expected production capacity is 300,000 cars per year once the factory is running at full speed.

The initial phase will see 150,000 vehicles manufactured annually with the first models launched in 2024, the R&D team is already working with more than 1,000 employees and continues to grow, with Xiaomi planning to launch 4 different models spanning A and B+.

The A+ model will retail for between 150,000 and 200,000 yuan ($22,200 to $29,600) and support L2 autonomous driving.

On the other hand, the B-Class cars will cost between 200,000 and 300,000 CNY ($29,600 and $44,400) and support L3 autonomous driving technology.
