iPhone 14 – iPhone 14 Why did the company abandon the “mini” phone in this series?

Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 14 series next fall, but the iPhone 14 mini will not be part of it. This series will have four models namely iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Max, both of which will come with 6.1-inch screens, and iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with 6.7-inch screens.

However, Apple may also decide to sell the “mini” version as the next generation iPhone SE. Here are the possible reasons that may have prompted Apple to abandon the iPhone 14 mini.

Reasons for excluding iPhone Mini phones from the iPhone 14 series

In 2020, Apple launched the iPhone 12 mini with a 5.4-inch screen, and although it attracted a lot of attention and won the admiration of many users, it did not achieve the expected sales.

According to a CIRP analyst report, the iPhone 12 mini accounted for only about 6% of the total sales of the series in the first two months of launch. Meanwhile, the regular iPhone 12 version achieved sales by 27%, while the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max recorded sales by 20%.

And in September 2021, when the company launched a series iPhone 13 However, despite improved battery backup and screen brightness, the iPhone 13 mini did not perform well in sales. Another report from CIRP stated that this phone accounts for only 3% of all iPhone sales.

So, while the company tried to get attention for the iPhone mini with its relatively lower price than the Pro and Pro Max models, the older versions did the same for them in a better way with a lower price and larger screen.

One of the most logical reasons behind the decline in iPhone mini sales is that most consumers tend to see Apple phones as premium products with bigger and better screens. So, when the iPhone 11, iPhone XR, and other iPhone models came with larger screens, it lessened the hype of the iPhone mini being a premium product.

The company is also facing the problem of a global shortage of chips, so the company may resort to stopping allocating resources to a product that does not bring them much profit. However, it can be said that in the future Apple may bring back its flagship iPhone mini again, albeit with a different name.
