Xiaomi presented a Smart Glasses concept last year, and the prototype is already a reality, less than a year after the announcement.
The Mijia glasses camera is now available for pre-order on the company’s internal crowdfunding platform. The introductory price is CNY2,499 (about $370), and customers will receive a laptop that weighs 100 grams and has a custom Snapdragon 8-based chipset, as well as a dual camera setup with 5X optical zoom.
The Snapdragon chip is assisted by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and there’s apparently an independent ISP. The screen is a product of Sony and is a silicon-based OLED with a maximum brightness of 3000 nits, 1800 nits to the eye, 3281 ppi density and with TUV certification for blue light levels.
The dual camera has a 50 MP main sensor with Quad Bayer pixel binning, while the secondary is an 8 MP 5x telephoto periscope with OIS and can record up to 100 minutes of video non-stop.
The battery capacity is 1,020 mAh and supports wireless charging at 10W. 30 minutes of charging can bring 80% from flat. Other specifications and features include live on-screen translation and built-in support for Xiaomi’s AI assistant XiaoAI.
The product follows the classic crowdfunding recipe – collect pre-orders, and with the accumulated money, it begins to manufacture the device. When the company is ready for outright production, the device is said to cost CNY2,699 (around $400).
