The wave of folded phones started for the first time in 2019 from Samsung with the Galaxy Fold, followed by a torrent of companies such as Huawei, Vivo and Oppo, and now Google Pixel Fold, the company’s first folded phone.

Four years later, Google joined the club of manufacturers of folded phones, and here it shines with its first foldable device, which it called the Pixel Fold… so will it be an integrated masterpiece worth all this waiting, or just an attempt to catch up? Let’s find out together in this quick review…

Google Pixel Fold design

Google kept the same design of the Pixel 7 series and adopted it in the Pixel Fold, the same horizontally protruding camera strip and the glass structure, the dimensions were smaller than the rest of the folded phones as appeared in the leaks, which makes the external screen slightly wider with dimensions of 17.4:9 and not longitudinal like the Z Fold 4 and Mate X3.

As for the internal screen, it is a little disappointing due to the relatively large edges at the top and bottom, the reason is due to the approved joint that includes parts at the top and bottom that will claim to take up space from the interface, but what Google is preparing is a safe and durable folding experience, especially since it is made of stainless steel as well The internal screen Resistant to folding effects.

On the right, the power button is integrated with the fingerprint sensor, the volume down and volume up buttons, at the bottom is the speaker, the Type-C charging port and the SIM card slot, and at the top is a second speaker for realistic stereo sound.

The phone is water resistant to the IPX8 standard, with confirmation that it is only water resistant and not dust resistant.

The device is relatively heavy with a weight of 283 grams due to the strong manufacturing materials with a slim thickness of 5.8 mm and 12.1 mm in the folded position.

The external screen is a 5.8-inch AMOLED panel with FHD + resolution, with a density of 408 pixels per inch, with a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Fixtures. The screen displays saturated colors with accurate details with support for HDR10 + technology. It also comes with a maximum brightness of 1200 lumens.

The internal screen is also a 7.6-inch OLED with a resolution of 2208 by 1840 pixels, with a density of 380 pixels per inch, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and a high brightness of 1450 lumens. It also comes with a plastic layer that protects it from scratches.

The device, of course, runs on Android 13, the latest raw system, i.e. expecting a fast and smooth software experience away from additions and user interfaces that spoil the system experience, also Google modified the system and added to it a set of features and characteristics to take advantage of the large screen, most notably the application bar at the bottom that allows applications to move quickly .

The phone works with the special Tensor G2 processor from Google, integrated with the Titan M2 protection chip … The processor has proven its efficiency with the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro, so it will provide strong performance and high efficiency in switching between applications and from one screen to another.

The device will be available with one option of 12 GB of LPDDR5 RAM with two options of storage capacity of 256 or 512 GB of UFS 3.1 type … which can be considered disappointing given that most of the leading phones adopt LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage capacities.

It comes with two front cameras, a 9.5-megapixel external screen camera with f 2.2 aperture with fixed focus, and an 8-megapixel internal screen camera with f 2.0 aperture, and as is the case with most folded phones, the rear cameras can be used to take high-resolution selfies.
