Apple today unveiled a system iPad OS 17 iPadOS 17 and up WatchOS 10 watchOS 10 was officially announced at WWDC 2023. iPadOS 17 and watchOS 10 beta are rolling out to developers right away, a public beta will roll out next month, and a fall version for all users.
The most important features of iPad OS 17
The new iPadOS 17 gains the customizable lock screen, which was first introduced last year with iOS 16, giving users the option to customize the wallpaper, choose different widgets, and play around with font styles.
Lock Screen will now also support widgets for live activities such as food ordering, travel plans or game results.
Apple has also promised to improve Stage Manager, a feature that allows users to have multiple application windows open at once for better flexibility in window sizing and positioning.
Apple finally brought the Health app to the iPad and took advantage of the larger dashboard to display your health data in a more comprehensive way.

The iPad will benefit, too, from improvements to Find My, courtesy of iOS 17, as well as the new Journal app.
Apple has focused on PDFs with its Notes app. And using machine learning models, the Notes app will be able to mark fields in a PDF to help with annotations with the Apple Pencil.

Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, said iPadOS 17 will provide new ways to organize, annotate, and collaborate on PDFs in the Notes app.
The most prominent features of WatchOS 10 officially
With watchOS 10, the home screen is now even better with something called the Smart Stack. It is a group of widgets that provides information at a glance and switches from one to another using the Digital Crown.
Apple is making changes to the physical controls as well and by pressing the side button it opens Control Center at any time and double pressing the Digital Crown takes you back to your recent apps.

With the new update, apps will use more screen space, showing you more information.
There are some new watch faces. Where the painting depicts the time in a variety of colors and changes with the passage of the day. There is also an exclusive Snoopy and Woodstock watch face.
Apple Watch Ultra has become more competitive than Garmin watches. And with watchOS 10, users will get offline maps with turn-by-turn navigation that can be accessed from their iPhone to their paired watch.
Hikers will be able to view trails right on their wrist, including trail information such as type, length, and difficulties. And with the Watch Ultra’s altimeter, hikers will get a 3D map of their waypoints, and the watch will automatically create a waypoint to the last place you had cellular coverage in case you need to turn back and send a message.


Apple is adding new cycling features in watchOS 10. Users will get a new view of their workout with cycling speed, elevation, heart rate, duration, and distance. This information can also be duplicated on the iPhone screen. The watch will also easily connect to Bluetooth-enabled cycling computers.
Apple has also added Vision to the Health app. And Apple Watch will be able to measure the amount of time you spend in daylight using an ambient light sensor. It will also track how far you look at your phone screen using your iPhone or iPad’s depth camera. If you hold it close to 30cm for an extended period of time, the watch will send you a notification.

Finally, mental wellness is a new addition to the Mindfulness app. You will be able to record your mood using the Digital Crown to choose from emotions represented as abstract shapes. There are standard tests to assess your risk of anxiety and depression.
