Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series phones have offered a dedicated 10MP telephoto camera with 10x optical zoom for the past three years.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Galaxy S23 Ultra have a maximum of 10x optical zoom. However, Samsung may lower this number, making its decision confusing. Tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) claims that the Galaxy S24 Ultra features a 50MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
It is also said to have a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. If this is the case, we could see a reduction from 10x optical zoom to 5x optical zoom on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.
The source claims that the 50MP telephoto camera on the Galaxy S24 Ultra uses a 1/2.52-inch sensor with 0.7µm pixels. This is similar to the telephoto camera on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.
However, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra uses the same sensor for its 3.2x optical zoom camera. This means that Samsung may no longer have the advantage in terms of zoom performance. However, it would be fair to wait until the Galaxy S24 Ultra launches and check its performance.
