Xiaomi Mi 9 is now receiving the MIUI 12.5 update based on Android 11

Xiaomi is moving forward with its updates to MIUI 12.5, and the latest phone adorned with this version of the skin is the Mi 9 in Europe. It’s actually a double party for Mi 9 owners, for not only does the phone get MIUI 12.5, but the underlying Android version has also changed and jumps from Android 10 to Android 11.

It’s so big, both figuratively and literally – the download is 2.4GB, so if you have a limited data plan, be sure to use Wi-Fi to get it.

The new build is branded MIUI V12.5.1.0.RFAEUXM, and as we already mentioned (and that “EU” in the name makes it clear), this goes out to Mi 9 devices that were sold in European markets. As you can see from the change log screenshots above, the building is marked “Stable”, but that does not necessarily mean that all Mi 9 devices in nature get it now, for Xiaomi loves to have a very small rollout initially, making sure that there is no stopping error intervening.

If all goes well, a broader rollout will follow in the coming weeks. Of course, if you have a Mi 9 bought from Europe, you can always continue to check manually, maybe you are among the lucky ones.

The change log itself is basically the same as for every other MIUI 12.5 rollout, mentioning “20 times more rendering power” to the system, “custom device model adjustments” that should result in any phone getting faster, and things like “MIUI became lighter, faster and more durable “, whatever that means. You also get the June 2021 security patch level, though it’s likely to be August when all Mi 9 devices install this update – but that’s just the tedious state of security updates in MIUI country.

Finally, the Notes app receives a huge update in MIUI 12.5 with support for dynamic layouts, mind maps with complex structures, new tools for doodling and drawing, a new gesture shortcut, and support for snippets.
