Xiaomi moves up on Fortune’s Global 500 list (#338), Apple is near the top (#6)

Fortune magazine published its Global 500 ranking last year, noting that 135 companies on the list come from mainland China – this is more than any other country. Among these companies is Xiaomi, which made the list for the third year in a row.

Xiaomi moved 84 places up the Fortunes Global 500 list

The company celebrated its 338th position – it is 84 places higher than a year ago. According to a report from Canalys, Xiaomi surpassed Apple to become the second largest smartphone maker in the second quarter of this year in terms of sales. Samsung is still ahead in first place, but the margin is shrinking.

Of course, Xiaomi is involved in almost every gadget category, from smart bands to smart TVs, from electric scooters to electric kettles. Fortune’s location is for the company in general, not just its mobile business. To take a closer look Xiaomis scorecard, the company experienced a doubling of the profit and an increase in turnover of 19.6%.

Retailers like Walmart (# 1) and Amazon (# 3) are obviously in the top 10. The higher positions on the list have many car manufacturers and companies dealing in oil and financial services. But we focus on phones – you can watch the entire Global 500 list if you are curious about a particular brand.

Apple is the best smartphone maker at # 6. A little further down are competitors Samsung (# 15) and Google’s parent company, Alphabet (# 21). Hon Hai Precision Industry (aka Foxconn) is No. 22. US carriers are also quite high on the list, including AT&T (# 26) and Verizon (# 47), Deutsche Telekom (owner of T-Mobile) is # 53, China Mobile is # 56. Sony is number 88, though not necessarily for its smartphone business.
