Samsung has launched the new Exynos W920 processor designed specifically for smartwatches, and it is a successor to the Exynos 9110 processor that was unveiled three years ago with the original Samsung Galaxy Watch.
The Exynos W920 processor will make its debut in the Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 4 Classic scheduled to be launched at the company’s event tomorrow. Although these processors are more energy efficient than their predecessors, the processor Exynos The new one will also offer much faster performance.
Exynos W920 processor specifications
The Exynos W920 is manufactured using the latest 5nm manufacturing technology from Samsung Foundry. It features two ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores and an ARM Mali-G68 GPU.
According to the company, the new processor for smartwatches is 20% faster than the previous Exynos 9110 processor in CPU tests and will provide 10 times faster graphics performance. The Exynos W920 GPU can handle screens with resolutions up to qHD (960 x 540 pixels).
Samsung says the Exynos W920 “supports a new unified wearable platform co-created with Google, and will be implemented first on the upcoming Galaxy Watch model.”

The Exynos W920 also includes a dedicated Cortex-M55 processor for AoD (Always Display) tasks, further reducing power consumption for wearables powered by the new processor. It also comes integrated with GNSS (Global Geospatial Positioning System), a 4G LTE modem, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and Bluetooth 5.0. Of course, it supports Wear OS, which was jointly developed by Google and Samsung.

It’s worth noting that Samsung is working with Google on a new smartwatch software that combines Tizen and Wear OS, and it will now run on new devices as well. This will definitely be good news for smartwatch enthusiasts, since performance has always been an issue with Wear OS watches.
