German iPhone users now have a nice new way to store their driving license digitally. Version 1.6 of ID Wallet app developed by Digital Enabling GmbH allows users to scan and save driving licenses on their phones. The app is now officially supported by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority and the Federal Printing Office, which gives users the freedom not to have their physical documents with them.
ID Wallet app with added driver’s license
Activation of the digital driving license requires a valid German identity card with an activated online function. After scanning your ID and receiving confirmation from the app, you can then scan and save your driver’s license. With the digital driving license, users can identify themselves when renting a vehicle from car rental services or checking into hotels. Currently, the ID Wallet app cannot be integrated with Apple’s Wallet app.
