New MIUI interface adds iOS-like interface elements

Technical reports last month said that Xiaomi is working on iOS-like widgets for the MIUI interface, and today those widgets are in beta, where anyone with a supported device running the MIUI China Beta ROM can try out the new widgets.

According to announce Released by the official MIUI account on Weibo, the UI elements of the iOS-like MIUI interface are now available in the MIUI Beta channel.

During the initial testing phase, the new widget system only supported a few first-party apps, but now, Xiaomi says developers of 6 popular apps have updated their apps for compatibility and even introduced some tools.

Users can also experience widgets for stock MIUI apps like Gallery, Notes, Clock, Security, etc. Widgets can be placed in the App Vault and on the home screen, and they also support dark mode.

Currently, these tools are only available on select mid-range and flagship Mi, Redmi and Xiaomi phones running the MIUI China Beta ROM, it is not known when this feature will be available in global markets.

Android has had widgets for a long time, however, since Apple introduced widgets in iOS 14 last year, competitors have started reintroducing them like vivo in OriginOS.

Google has also revamped the Android widget system for Android 12 with support for the “Material You” theme engine. Finally, OPPO also has its own app for widgets called “Quick View Cards” in ColorOS 12.
