Xiaomi Redmi 9i Sport and 9A Sport with P2i coating, Redmi 9 Activ brings more RAM

You would think now that Redmi 10 is official, Xiaomi will finish expanding the big Redmi 9 series, but the company never takes a break in its quest to deliver an increasingly confusing lineup.

Say hello to Redmi 9A Sport and Redmi 9i Sport, which provide splash-proof bodies thanks to P2i coating. Other than that, they are identical to their 2020 non-sports versions, but clearly the Chinese company felt that a little extra resistance to elements was all they needed to stay relevant a year later.

In addition to them, we got the Redmi 9 Activ, which has a new 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage version and two different colors. The base version remains 4 GB / 64 GB mind, so the new is possibility to upgrade.

Xiaomi Redmi 9i Sport

To make things more confusing still, the Redmi 9i Sport and Redmi 9A Sport are pretty much identical with identical chipsets, camera setups, bodies and screen, though the panel on the 9A is a bit brighter.

The difference between them then bottoms out in memory variants. 9A Sport has 4 GB of RAM and either 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, while 9i Sport only has 32 GB of internal storage and a choice between 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM.

Redmi 9 Activ (and its vanilla siblings) should not be confused with the international Redmi 9 – why would you think that phones with identical names from the same manufacturer would be the same? Still, the new Activ version drops the orange and blue colors and replaces them with green and purple gradients. It also comes with a new 6 GB / 128 GB version instead of 4 GB / 128 GB in the original Indian Redmi 9. However, you pay a premium if you want it as it is not a direct replacement.
