Samsung revealed its plans for mass production of semiconductor chips with 2nm, 3nm and 4nm manufacturing technologies, as the announcement came as part of the Samsung Foundry Forum 2021.

The world’s largest memory chip brand has revealed that it will continue to develop manufacturing technologies for faster and more efficient chips, which are in high demand, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Samsung begins developing 4nm processors

The South Korean company said it has already started mass production of 4nm processors. Samsung Foundry also revealed that it will start producing 3nm semiconductor chips in the first half of 2022.

To produce the processors with 3nm technology, the company will use an advanced technology called Gathering Everywhere (GAA) with Multi-Bridge Channel Technology (MBCFET) to achieve 35% less bandwidth, 30% higher performance, and 50% lower power consumption compared to the 3nm process. EUV 5 nm.

The company expects to begin mass production of 2nm processors in 2025. This is the first time Samsung has talked about 2nm technology, and it appears to be an improved version of its 3nm manufacturing technology.

The company also revealed that it is constantly working on improving FinFET technology. 17nm FinFET technology uses a 3D transistor architecture to achieve 39% higher performance, and a 49% increase in power efficiency compared to the 28nm process node. Samsung is also improving its 14nm technology with high voltage 3.3V or eMRAM to improve write speeds and density. It can be used to make IoT, MCUs (microcontrollers), and processors for wearable devices.

It is reported that Samsung plans to make the manufacturing of new chips less expensive for customers, and according to one of the officials in the company, it is also seeking to reduce the cost of transistors.
