Google’s Pixel 6 event this week was the least surprising technical event in the history of technological events, perhaps ever. We knew most of the details well in advance thanks to the combined efforts of Google’s marketing team, a number of industry insiders and reviews who were less than perfectly willing to comply with embargoes. But that does not mean that it did not leave us with some strong impressions.
There is something magnificent about a Google smartphone event. Despite Google’s niche status in the hardware market, its number one in software makes a Pixel launch important for the entire industry.
And now that the event is over and we’ve had some time to think about it, let’s discuss the things that stood out.
Tensor is smart and extremely powerful, but will it overheat?
Google’s Tensor chip was the first thing Google talked about at the event, so you can see that it’s just as important as the cameras on a Pixel 6. Tensor is a specially developed system on a chip that is the first in the world that does not contains one but two Cortex-X1 large cores in its processor. That alone indicates that it has more computing power than a Snapdragon 888 with its single Cortex-X1 core. ‘Pixel Look’ is built right into its image signal processor, and it applies it to both still images and videos. Google’s new and improved skin tone reproduction of different skin tones is baked in. Tricks such as. Magic Erase, which automatically removes foreign objects from your images, Motion Mode can simulate long exposure effects such as blurred water, etc.
This is the first Pixel phone to have a cool new design. Until now, the Pixel line has stood for minimalism and has had a generic design that needs to move out of the way so you can focus on the software.
The Pixel 6 line with its prominent camera “bar” is different from anything in the tech world right now. The majority of phones have a clear camera island in an upper corner on the back. The Pixel 6 ‘island immediately stands out. As a nice bonus, when the larger Pro and the smaller 6 are put side by side and upright, their camera screens adjust almost perfectly and a lot of thought has gone into that design.

But it could have been better
The camera’s hardware is a huge improvement over previous pixels, but there are still some shortcomings compared to some current flagship phones. The new 12MP ultrawide camera lacks autofocus, which puts it one step behind it like the iPhone 13 Pro and Galaxy S21 Ultra for macro shooting.
The selfie cameras on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro also lack autofocus. In addition, Pixel 6 buyers get an inferior 8MP 24mm front camera compared to the much wider 11.1MP 20mm on the Pixel 6 Pro.
Small Pixel is not small at all
Many years of Pixel lovers will regret the oversize of this year’s Pixel series.
