Today, Xiaomi officially announced that the Xiaomi 12 Pro will be the first phone to use the new Sony IMX707 sensor in its main rear camera. The sensor specifications include a 50-megapixel resolution, 1/1.28 inch, 1.22 µm pixel size, and it can create large 2.44 µm pixels.

According to the famous leaker Digital Chat Station The CIS (Contact Image Sensor) is actually just a sensor that comes with small improvements over last year’s IMX700 sensor and both feature a near-identical set of specs.
Another tech blogger named Todo Plus revealed that there is no noticeable difference in performance between the IMX707 sensor and its older version. If this information is correct, this could mean that Sony re-launched the IMX700 sensor last year under a new name, although it is possible that minor modifications were made.
The Digital Chat Station leaker also says that the Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro will not get the Samsung sensors that were used in the Xiaomi Mi 11 series, and will now use Sony sensors “with a greater focus on the experience.”

The IMX707 sensor from the Xiaomi 12 Pro will come with the Sony IMX766 sensor on the regular Xiaomi 12, which is a slightly smaller 1/1.56-inch sensor but still larger than the iPhone 13’s 1/1.88-inch sensor. The performance of both the IMX707 and IMX766 will be boosted by Xiaomi’s new “Image Brain” technology that will deliver faster image processing and better snapshots of fast-moving objects.
