Tencent to buy Xiaomi’s BlackShark Gaming division for $470M

A new report claims that the Chinese giant Tencent Games is buying Xiaomi’s BlackShark Gaming division in a deal worth about 3 billion CNY. That’s just over $ 470 million.

Details about the purchase are sparse and an official statement on the matter is still missing. Should that happen, Tencent will finally enter the gaming smartphone segment with its own hardware offering.

In the past, Tencent has partnered with various smartphone manufacturers, including Asus for its ROG phone and nubia for the Red Magic series. With BlackShark, the company may also be able to take its business abroad, as Xiaomi’s division has already penetrated some major markets.
