iOS 16 – iOS 16 first look at the update and eligible devices for it

Apple first used new widgets on iOS 14 in 2020, then ported them to iPadOS last year. However, it seems that the company is planning to bring more updates to the user interface elements in the new operating system iOS 16.

Features of the upcoming iOS 16 update

Popular leaker LeaksApplePro posted via Twitter Screenshot of the much awaited Interactive Widgets feature, which Apple internally calls “InfoShack”.

Although the widgets feature on the home screen of the iPhone and iPad since iOS 14, they do not interact with the user and only allow moving them on the screen. InfoShack appears to be highly customizable, allowing the user to place Control Center toggles, speed dial options, assign in-app functions to it (such as quick start/stop of the stopwatch), or start navigation.

Notably, the design of the icons in this tool is more similar to that of macOS Monterey compared to iOS 15, so if these leaks are true, it is likely that iOS will be redesigned as well, in a way that brings it more in line with iOS 16 and macOS icon designs.

The new leak also shows the Apple TV remote toggle switch that appeared to look nothing like the current iOS image or the actual Apple TV remote. Since the Apple TV remote code is so real, it’s unlikely that Apple will change the design unless they also release a new Apple TV remote.

Apple is expected to release iOS 16 when the iPhone 14 series is released which may take place in September this year. However, users can try it out during the summer after its public beta release.
